Saudi officials close to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman told The Wall Street Journal that they were aware of plans to hack Jeff Bezos' phone .
The unnamed officials also said that senior adviser to the crown prince, Saud al-Qahtani, was also involved in the hacking as part of a broader intimidation campaign against Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi , who was murdered in October 2018 at the hands of Saudi agents.

In the spring of 2018, Saudi Arabia's crown prince, Mohammed Bin Salman, arrived in the U.S. for a three-week cross-country tour to pitch a progressive vision for his kingdom, including an economic plan less reliant on oil, and to charm America's elite.
