Boris Johnson refuses to reveal how badly his Brexit deal will hurt the UK economy

1 month ago   |   By Business Insider

Boris Johnson's government is refusing to reveal what they expect the economic impact of his new Brexit will be.
A cross-party group of MPs wrote to Brexit Secretary Stephen Barclay calling for the government to release analysis of how Johnson's deal would affect the UK economy.
However, Chancellor Sajid Javid said: "I see no need for a new impact assessment."
Previous analysis said a free trade deal along the lines of that envisaged in Johnson's deal would reduce annual economic growth by 6.7%.

UK parliament's treasury committee demands new Brexit analysis before key vote

The British parliament's Treasury Committee demanded that the Finance Ministry produce fresh economic forecasts of the cost of leaving the EU under Prime Minister Boris Johnson's new deal before MPs have to vote on Saturday, according to Reuters.
“It is unacceptable that the Committee has not received this information from HM Treasury. It appears to be an attempt to avoid scrutiny,” the committee's acting chair, Catherine McKinnell, wrote in a letter to Finance Minister Sajid Javid.
Javid told reporters in Washington on Thursday that he did not intend to update Finance Ministry forecasts...

Corbyn criticized by Tories for rejecting Boris Brexit deal before he'd even read it

Jeremy Corbyn has been roundly criticized by his political opponents for rejecting Boris Johnson's Brexit deal with the EU out of hand without reading it.
Corbyn was quoted by the PA news service at 10:51am local time Thursday, rejecting what he called a “sell-out deal” despite the fact the full legal text of the agreement was only emailed out by 10 Downing Street at 11:17am.
From what we know, Johnson's negotiated a worse deal than Theresa May. This sell-out deal risks our rights, protections and NHS. It won't bring the country together and should be rejected. pic.twitter.com/ZMKSNt2Nc9...

The UK Parliament will vote on Boris Johnson's Brexit deal this Saturday.
If Members of Parliament reject the deal, Johnson will be legally obliged to request a delay.
