27 days ago   |   By Chicago Tribune

Some Illinois groups and elected officials are worried that a citizenship question on the 2020 U.S. Census will result in an inaccurate headcount and have a negative impact on the state. Those worries deepened Tuesday when the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments on the issue and signaled that...

Supreme Court Signals Support for Trump's 2020 Census Citizenship Question

27 days ago   |   By Fortune

Key U.S. Supreme Court justices seemed inclined to let the Trump administration add a question about citizenship to the 2020 census in a clash that will shape the allocation of congressional seats and federal dollars.
In an 80-minute argument Tuesday that was both technical and combative, Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Brett Kavanaugh directed almost all their questions to the lawyers challenging the decision to ask about citizenship. Supreme Court divided on citizenship question for census

Supreme Court divided on citizenship question for census

27 days ago   |   By Politico

The Supreme Court seemed divided along ideological lines Tuesday as the justices heard arguments about the Trump administration's move to add a question about citizenship to the 2020 census. Nielsen CEO David Kenny urged the Supreme Court not to allow the Trump administration to ask about citizenship status in the upcoming 2020 census survey.
In a New York Times column , Kenny says businesses rely on the census to make decisions regarding consumer behavior, and asking for citizenship will result in flawed data.
Though Kenny is the first CEO to speak out directly against the inclusion, many business leaders have criticized President Trump's immigration policies as being bad for business.

The Latest: Supreme Court considering census question case

27 days ago   |   By My Sanantonio

WASHINGTON - The Latest on Supreme Court arguments over the Trump administration's plan to ask about citizenship on the 2020 census :
11 a.m.
Conservative Supreme Court justices said little as a Trump administration lawyer defended the government's plan to ask about citizenship on the 2020 census. That could be an indication the court's majority may be inclined to side with the administration.
Liberal justices peppered the administration's top Supreme Court lawyer with questions as arguments got underway Tuesday. But they would lack the votes to stop the plan without support from at least...
