A Russian marketing agency has offered to help restaurants in cities hosting the soccer World Cup use fake reviews to bump up ratings on review site TripAdvisor. Marketing company Bacon Agency says it can circumvent TripAdvisor's algorithm for detecting fraudulent posts and publish reviews in foreign languages ahead of an influx of fans from abroad. A Russian marketing agency is offering to write fake TripAdvisor reviews on behalf of ailing restaurants.
The service costs $570 and aims to dupe FIFA World Cup tourists in Russia this summer.
The marketing agency confirmed its reviewing scam to Reuters, but stressed no restaurant had yet bought the service because they were "already doing" it themselves.
