A year after his teammate, Mariano Rivera, became the first ever unanimous selection to the Baseball Hall of Fame, much of the drama surrounding Tuesday night's 2020 Hall of Fame announcement centered around if Derek Jeter would become the second.
He didn't. By one vote.
In his first year on the ballot, Jeter was a shoe-in to make the Hall of Fame, but he received 396 of 397 possible votes , robbing the former Yankees shortstop of joining Rivera in rarified company.
