Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will have to bid adieu to their “His and Her Royal Highness” titles as they step back from their royal duties, Buckingham Palace announced on Saturday.
The Duke, 35, and Duchess of Sussex, 38, have apparently reached a compromise with Queen Elizabeth II after sharing their shocking decision to step back as senior members of the royal family, split their time between the U.K. and North America, and become financially independent. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will no longer use their HRH titles and will no longer be receiving taxpayer funds according to a Saturday statement from the Queen and Buckingham Palace.
“Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved members of my family,” Queen Elizabeth II said in a public statement. “I recognize the challenges they have experienced as a result of intense scrutiny over the last two years and support their wish for a more independent life.”
