Former President George W. Bush is calling for a national examination of “tragic failures” in the realm of racial injustice following a week of protest over the police killing of an unarmed black man in Minneapolis.
In a statement released Tuesday evening, the 43rd president said that he and former first lady Laura Bush had been “anguished by the brutal suffocation of George Floyd,” the 46-year-old who was pinned by a knee to the neck for nearly nine minutes last Monday by an officer of the Minneapolis Police Department.

Former President George W. Bush in a statement on Tuesday condemned the ongoing presence of racism in the US while urging Americans against "looting" and "destruction."
Bush's statement came amid ongoing, nationwide protests over the death of George Floyd.
Floyd, a black man, died after a white Minneappolis police officer knelt on his neck for eight minutes.
