Coronavirus stories hit hard, large and small

They say a son's a son 'til he takes a wife, but a daughter's a daughter all her life, and if Mary never fully understood the poignancy of that old bromide it's now being pounded into her day by day by the coronavirus, a pandemic both cruel and lethal.
Now 56, a mother herself, she looks back on her formative years, growing up in the Fairmount section of Hyde Park, and the Mom she now sees in those precious memories, clearer than ever, was more than loving; indeed, in hindsight she was heroic.
