ALBANY, N.Y. - With more than 3,500 New Yorkers hospitalized for Covid-19, health systems across the state must begin preparing to increase their bed capacities, balancing patient loads and identifying staff - including retired nurses and doctors - to work at emergency field facilities if they are needed, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Monday.

New York lays out 5-step plan for second wave of coronavirus

ALBANY - Hospitals across the state must prepare for surges in coronavirus cases as part of New York's strategy for addressing the second wave of the virus.
Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on Monday presented a five-point strategy for tackling COVID-19 cases in regions across the state, the first of which is a focus on the number of hospitalizations that could overwhelm a facility. At the end of June, Cuomo said hospitalizations were at about 900, and now those numbers have climbed to 3,500 people hospitalized.
