Man accused of giving drugs to 13-year-old girl called ‘animal' by neighbors

The 47-year-old Lawrence man accused of assaulting and giving drugs to a 13-year-old Amesbury girl who later died is an “animal,” neighbors said Sunday, adding if convicted he should spend the rest of his life in jail.
“You have to be an animal to do that,” a neighbor who declined to provide his name said on Bellevue Street, near Carlos Rivera's apartment where the 13-year-old girl stayed last weekend, according to police.
“It's messed up, man,” another resident on Bellevue Street said. “You can't have people doing that. He needs to go away forever. Giving drugs to kids, that.”
