Missouri is latest state to pass restrictive abortion law

Missouri today became the latest state to pass a strict anti-abortion law as Republican legislators churn out measures they hope will provide a test case for the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade. The state House voted 110-44 for a bill that prohibits abortion once a fetal heartbeat has been detected. The Senate passed it on Thursday. With the expected signature of Gov. Mike Parson, who already tweeted his support, Missouri would join four other states - Kentucky, Ohio, Mississippi, Georgia - that have enacted similar legislation this year. Abortion bans are popping up all around the country. Here are the states that have passed new laws to challenge Roe v. Wade in 2019

The spring of 2019 has seen an unprecedented surge in Republican-led states passing near-total bans on most abortions.
In the months of April and May alone, the governors of Ohio, Georgia, and Alabama signed some of the most restrictive abortion bans in the country into law.
None of the laws have gone into effect yet, and all are being challenged in court.
Some legislators have explicitly stated the purpose of these bans is to bring a case before the Supreme Court that could result in the court overturning Roe v. Wade.
