As the epic battle for Iwo Jima raged on, Albert Richards helped bury the American dead in body bags in the black sand to be retrieved later - until he couldn't take it anymore.
“We'd pull off one dog tag, leave one tag on the body and write it up. Well I didn't like it, particularly when I saw a couple of my buddies and I said, ‘I can't do it,'” the 93-year-old U.S. Marine veteran said.
