Massachusetts paid $438,000 to Maryland company behind faulty vaccine appointment website

Gov. Charlie Baker's administration has paid nearly a half-million dollars so far to a Maryland-based company in the hot seat over website failures plaguing coronavirus vaccine signups in Massachusetts, according to records obtained by the Boston Herald.
According to a bill dated Aug. 21, the state was charged $318,000 for a lifetime license for PrepMod Public Heath Bundle, an “end-to-end system” that promised to “automate all aspects of managing public health programming, including pandemics and other public health emergencies.”

The U.S. surpassed half a million coronavirus deaths on Monday, reinforcing the magnitude of the pandemic even as more Americans get vaccinated and Covid deaths and hospitalizations are declining.

The U.S. hit the grim milestone of 500,000 total coronavirus deaths on Monday, as Massachusetts health officials reported nearly 30,000 coronavirus vaccine doses given in the state in the most recent day of vax data.
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health's daily vaccination report on Monday showed 1,443,848 total doses administered - 1,044,210 people who have received at least one dose and 399,638 people who have received both doses of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.
That's an increase of 29,959 doses from Sunday's report. The previous daily vaccinations were 40,983 doses...
