TROY - The state Taxation and Finance department said Friday that it seized untaxed cigarettes from two Troy stores.
The Stop and Shop at 67 Middleburgh St. and Harry's Grocery at 1 Northern Dr. were also guilty of other violations, the state said, leading to the forced closure of both stores by the city's code department.
The state agency said inspectors found a total of nearly five cartons of untaxed cigarettes and other "contraband" in the stores, and each had their license to sell tobacco products suspended.
The owner of Harry's Grocery was charged with possession of untaxed cigarettes for sale and is expected to appear in Troy City Court on Dec. 18.
