Trump encourages mail voting in key battleground Florida

1 month ago   |   By My Sanantonio

WASHINGTON - In an abrupt reversal, President Donald Trump now is encouraging voters in the critical swing state of Florida to vote by mail after months of criticizing the practice, and only days after threatening to sue Nevada over a new vote-by-mail law.
His encouragement follows a surge in Democratic requests to vote for mail in Florida. Democrats currently have about 1.9 million Floridians signed up to vote by mail this November, almost 600,000 more than the Republicans' 1.3 million, according to the Florida Secretary of State.
In 2016, both sides had about 1.3 million signed up before...

Trump changes course on vote-by-mail - in Florida

1 month ago   |   By Boston Herald

After weeks of attempting to discredit vote-by-mail, President Trump appears to be changing his tune - at least in Florida.
Trump encouraged voters in the Sunshine State to send their ballots in by mail in a tweet Tuesday afternoon in which he called Florida's election system “safe and secure.”
“Whether you call it Vote by Mail or Absentee Voting, in Florida the election system is Safe and Secure, Tried and True. Florida's Voting system has been cleaned up , so in Florida I encourage all to request a Ballot & Vote by Mail!” Trump wrote .
Minutes later, White House Press Secretary Kayleigh...

President Donald Trump claimed there were 'millions' of illegal ballots cast in 2016, and he predicts the 2020 vote will be 'substantially fraudulent' and 'the greatest election disaster in history.'
But Election Assistance Commission Chair Ben Hovland told Insider in an exclusive interview there's zero evidence of widespread voting illegality in 2016 - and no evidence 2020 will be anything but free and fair and a process Americans can trust, even if challenges loom and tallying votes may take longer than usual.
Poll worker recruitment is one of the voting issues that worries Hovland 'the...

Trump says voting by mail in Florida is 'safe and secure, tried and true' after months of falsely claiming that mail voting is fraudulent

President Trump explicitly encouraged Florida voters to cast their ballots by mail this November in a Tuesday tweet.
The tweet, which described Florida's mail voting system as "safe and secure, tried and true," is a major departure from Trump's months of claiming that mass-scale mail voting is highly fraudulent.
Florida, a state that will be critical to Trump's re-election, has allowed voters to cast a ballot by mail without an excuse for several years.
