Top progressives come out swinging against possible gas tax in bipartisan infrastructure plan since it would hurt lower-income Americans

Progressives are assailing the idea of indexing the gas tax to inflation, which forms part of the infrastructure blueprint.
"Indexing the gas tax is just a way to raise taxes on working people next year instead of this year," a top Democrat said Wednesday.
The possible bump to the gas tax could generate only $35 billion over a decade.
