Buying secondhand clothes and accessories is a sustainable and affordable way to update one's wardrobe.
It can sometimes be tricky to decipher what makes a secondhand item worth the hunt , though.
Insider spoke with a professional stylist, who said people should never buy secondhand clothes that require major alterations.
People should also avoid buying secondhand "designer" pieces if the patterns and stitching don't line up.
