Brittney Griner's drug-smuggling trial will continue next week
The drug-smuggling trial of US women's basketball icon Brittney Griner began in a Russian court on Friday before being adjourned until July 7. Griner is charged with bringing illegal hashish vape cartridges into Russia when she arrived at a Moscow airport in mid-February.
Griner, 31, appeared at Khimki City Court just outside Moscow as the trial began, being seen wearing glasses and a Jimi Hendrix T-shirt. Along with Griner's legal team, representatives from the US Embassy in the Russian capital was also present.

US women's basketball player Brittney Griner's arrest on drugs charges was in no way politically motivated and it would be wrong for the Kremlin to comment on the legal process, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said as the star's trial began.
