Can a city that dispenses crack pipes really crack down on its drug problem?
That's the question for Boston leaders, and so far, the answer looks like a hard no.
While Mayor Michelle Wu has recently said that the situation at Mass and Cass has improved, Boston police last month noted an “uptick” of new people hanging around the Methadone Mile.
The city may work to get the denizens of Mass and Cass into treatment programs and housing and out of the street tents, but replacements flow into the empty spaces. What lures them?
Drugs, and the ready access to them.
