Thousands of Boston-area students skip school to march in climate protest

Rather than practice math problems or study for history tests, thousands of local students skipped school Friday to march through the streets of Boston, demanding immediate action from state officials on climate change and calling on Gov. Charlie Baker to declare a statewide climate emergency.
“Our environment is going to go down the crapper by the time I'm 28 years old, so I think this is more important than missing one day of school,” said 17-year-old Maria Carmona, a student at Medford High School.
